New Chairman for Sage

The chairman of Smiths Group and Royal Mail is taking up the same role with Sage, the global software giant headquartered in Newcastle.

City veteran Donald Brydon will join its board on July 6, replacing Tony Hobson as non-executive chairman on September 1 as the FTSE-100’s biggest tech firm changes its business model to grow revenues .

He said: “Sage has proved itself to be one of theUK’s most successful technology companies.

“The management team, led by Guy Berruyer, is committed to generating stronger growth through the development of more valuable relationships with its large and loyal SME customer base.

“I am delighted to be joining the board at this exciting time for the business.”

He brushed off rumours that his appointment came as the giant firm, which employs more than 13,500 staff, including 1,500 in the North East, is a takeover target following the buy-outs ofUKtech firms Logica, Misys and Autonomy.

“I am not joining Sage with the expectation that it will be taken over,” said Brydon.
